Over so soon?
We flew back to Manila last night for a 12 hour overnight stay at my grandparents. We were very sad to leave Tokyo behind… What a wonderful country. My aunt surprised us with a final Jollibee chicken joy dinner and i was hit with another wave of sadness. I probably won’t have another chicken joy until we come back in 2012. BOOURNS!!! I will miss my motherland. Well, time to be...

Maidreamin →
After playing with lots of cute kitties at the Nekobukuro (a cat cafe where pet-less Japanese folk can fill the void of not being able to have cats in their home) in the Ikebukuro district, we came across a girl dressed up in a french maid outfit handing out flyers on the street. The flyers were for a maid cafe! A FREAKING MAID COSPLAY CAFE! The legends were true! We just had to check this out! ...

Kiddy Land →
We just stumbled upon this gigantic toy store while trying to find Bounty Hunter and Secret Base in Harajuku. This store is five floors of pure happy. There was a whole floor dedicated to Snoopy!

Kyoto April 27-28
We just spent a very relaxing 24 hours in Kyoto. Our Ryokan (Japanese guest house) was just beside of this picturesque view. It was raining when we got there from our bullet train ride (which was really cool!) from Tokyo, so we stayed in the Ryokan and took advantage of the amenities. We were given yukatas to wear around the ryokan, which was also complete with an obi and super awesome ninja...

In Tokyo
I just got up in a Holiday Inn by Narita Airport feeling less than stellar. In true Kim fashion, I’ve come down with a cold in the most inopportune time. The flight here was brutal since your typical ear-popping felt more like someone trying to clamp my whole whole head in. What saddens me more is that Dayquil and Oil of Oregano didn’t exist in the Philippines. The Biogesic seems to...

Miriam Grade School & the cousins
We visited my old school, Miriam College. It’s an all girls private school that covers pre-school to university. Yes. This school is unbelievably massive. I was here from JK - Grade 3.  My aunt Gigi (who we also lovingly call Teacher Gail) stared out as an SK teacher back when I was also in SK. Now she is the principal of the Grade School. We hung out in her office.  In the six...

Hep hep HOORAY!: Wowowee Photos
Waiting in line to be let in to the Wowowee studios with my aunt Miel, cousin Marc and my mom (who took this photo) Almost at the studio! Sitting in the audience of Wowowee. Many people in the audience were balikbayans (Filipinos who were born in the Philippines, moved abroad and have come back to visit). The people right behind us were from Montreal. Alex got picked for HEP HEP HOORAY!...

My brother the pilot!
My brother took us to Clark Airbase, about 1 1/2 hours outside of Manila to check out his old job. He used to be a flight instructor in this small flying school (now he flies super rich people from Manila to a very exclusive beach resort in the provinces). He took my dad  flying to check out Mt. Pinatubo, which was just down the way. Mt. Pinatubo had a pretty epic volcanic eruption back in...

En route & Various Manila photos
Me falling asleep at the airport lounge in Korea. These chairs were stupidly tiny. After six hours of waiting around, you’d look like this too… We can only get wifi in my grandfather’s study. If you look at on the shelf above us, you can spot some photos of tiny me. My grandparents’ house. An epic view of the Manila skyline from Eagle’s Nest in...

Manila: Day 1 Part I (appendix a)
We finally arrived in Manila at 11AM on Saturday, April 10. The flight was really freaking long, and our landing was pretty dismal and turbulent (which my brother reassured us that it happens when the weather is exceptionally hot because of the uneven way the heat rises), but we finally made it! Before the trip, Alex was joking about how awkward he would feel being practically the only tall white...

Hanaikada Inn →
We thought we couldn’t afford staying in a traditional Japanese guest house, but it turns out that we magically have enough to splurge for one night, so this is where we are staying when we hit Kyoto for 24 hours. It’s apparently right by a monkey park. YAY MONKEYS!

Greetings
These are your captains speaking. We are Alex and Kim. We are young creatimajiggers (we like to make and draw stuff) living in Toronto, Canada. We’ve been going on travel misadventures together since our epic hitchhiking journey of 2006, just seven months into dating (a bit drastic choice for first couple’s vacation, perhaps? Yea, we know). We recently got hitched on Halloween 2009...
